Business Issue

Faced with outdated biotech equipment, the customer needed to upgrade their Bioreactors and provide modern data acquisition capabilities, providing them with the best tools available for discovery of new medicines.

Project Summary

This project included retrofitting 40 Braun Bioreactors with new Bradley James Bioreactor equipment.  Included in the retrofit was a new DeltaV software package to control the Bioreactors and provide integration with a PI Data Historian.

Scope Responsibility

Cornerstone Controls was responsible for the following areas:

  • DeltaV software design, develop and integration testing.
  • DeltaV control panel design.
  • Bioreactor mechanical/electric design and build.
  • The control system utilized Foundation Fieldbus and Device Net technologies.
  • Startup support including:
    • DeltaV platform installation and qualification
    • Software debug

Results

Software development and testing was delivered prior to site startup date. Scientists are using Bioreactors and collecting valuable process data for drug profiles.
